Happy Wednesday,

This week’s Sports Reference Lyric of the week is,

“I thought I would be #3 one day, till I wrecked my old man’s car” – “I used to want to hit’em like Chipper did, but I swung it just a little too slow”

Luke Combs is referencing Dale Earnhardt here with his #3 reference. Dale is commonly known as one of the greatest racecar drivers of all time, making the #3 synonymous with driving fast.

The second sports reference of the song is implying that growing up Combs wanted to play baseball how Chipper Jones did, however he did not have the same skill set. Chipper is known as one of the greatest switch hitters in baseball history, being a member of the MLB Hall of Fame.

Comeback next week for more Sports Reference Lyrics!

Till Next Time,
Trevor
