Happy Monday,
For the first time in NFL history, a coach will be named the Head Coach of a team…with zero, yes zero… coaching experience.
Monday morning the Indianapolis Colts fired Frank Reich after compiling a 40-33 record over the course of 4+ seasons.
Jeff Saturday is stepping in as the Interim Head Coach of the Colts, annouced by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. Saturday is currently an Analyst for ESPN along with a special advisor on the Colts staff. However, Saturday has never been a position coach, let alone an assistant coach, in his life. He played 13 seasons for the Colts, during which he was a 4-Time All-Pro center, along with 6-time Pro Bowler.
Reich stepped in during the 2018 off-season, expecting to take over a team with Andrew Luck at the helm, however things changed in 2019 when Luck abruptly retired. Since the Colts have struggled to find a starting QB, and are off to a 3-5-1 start this season.
While Saturday is only expected to be the Interim head coach while the Colts search for a new leader, it is still an unprecidented, interesting situtation unfolding in Indy.
Till Next Time,
Trevor
