Football fans, yet another great day is upon us – the start of the professional football season. For two weeks we have crammed college football into our eyes as much as possible, and tonight we get a taste of the big leagues.
Who will come out on top, you ask?
Predictions
NFC North – Detroit Lions
After decades of angst in the Motor City, the Lions go back to back on division championships
NFC South – Atlanta Falcons
Kirk and the boys cake walk through what might be the worst division in football
NFC East – Dallas Cowboys
You read that right, the Cowboys overcome the Eagles (who regress) and have a first round exit after winning the division
NFC West – Los Angeles Rams
The big bad 49ers in the Bay will be the favorite to win the division, but watch out for Stafford on what could be one of his last runs
AFC West – Kansas City Chiefs
Do I even need to say anything? Patrick Mahomes. There, I said it.
AFC South – Jacksonville Jaguars
This was a tough one. CJ Stroud looked incredible last year and the Texans are the favorite to win the South, but Trevor Lawrence is in his third season with Doug Pederson and it’s all going to come together (even though currently he might be the most overrated QB in the league)
AFC East – Miami Dolphins
After 4 years of the Bills dominating the East, the Dolphins put together a run. Will they win a playoff game?
AFC North – Cincinnati Bengals
Lamar Jackson is the reigning MVP, but Joey B wasn’t playing last year.
Award Predicitions:
MVP – Joe Burrow
The Tiger King is coming off of an injury ridden season, looking for vengeance. When healthy, he is undoubtedly a top 5 QB in the league, but can he stay healthy?
Offensive Player of The Year – Tyreek Hill
Tua is going to have high passing yards again strictly for one reason = he can throw it as far as he can and know that Tyreek is somewhere down there, 5 yards past the cornerback.
Defensive Player of The Year – TJ Watt
After getting snubbed last season with better numbers than Myles Garrett, Watt gets his trophy
Offensive Rookie of The Year – Caleb Williams
I said it before, and I’ll say it again, if you told me 5 years from now Caleb Williams is a bust – I’d believe you. If you told me 5 years ago from now Caleb Williams is the best player in the league – I’d believe you. This year, we see why the latter is more likely.
Defensive Rookie of the Year – Jared Verse
Two-time All-American at Florida State, Verse comes in size and speed (4.5, 40-yard dash) to be a difference maker in the Rams playoff hopeful season.
Comeback Player of the Year – Kirk Cousins
As a Jets fan, I sure hope this goes to Aaron Rodgers and he also wins MVP and Offensive player of the year, but this isn’t a dream. Kirk has all the weapons around him and is coming off a major injury as well, both players are in similar situations but I think Kirk winning the division is going to push him over the hump where Rodgers won’t be.
Super Bowl Match-Up:
Lions 24 – Chiefs 21
Some player predictions I have for the season:
- CJ Stroud doesn’t regress, but doesn’t out perform his last season success
- Jalen Hurts gets officially questioned if he is legit
- Brian Daboll is first coach to be fired, followed by Dennis Allen
- The Packers and Jordan Love prove everyone wrong… and are not good this year
- Justin Fields is starting in Pittsburgh by week 5
- Kyler Murray out performs others and is Top-10 in statistics
Till Next Time,
Trevor
