Today is a sad day in the world of sports. The greatest quarterback of all time to play the game has hung it up. After 22 seasons, Tom Brady has announced on his instagram that he will be retiring from the NFL.
Many “football fans” will be praising the fact that they do not have to watch him win any more, or celebrating that no Super Bowl will feature Tom again, and it’s a damn shame to look at it that way. For an entire generation of New England (and Tampa Bay) sports fans, one single man made them believe they were going to win a championship every-single-season.
It is an absolute privilege to have been able to watch the GOAT play at the level he has for the length of time that he was able to do it. Year after year, a man over the age of 40 was able to continue to be the best at the position and be a contributor to his team. And the craziest thing is that he easily could have played for another 2 seasons if he chose to. But he is going out on his terms.
When you look back at the history of football, actually any sport, there is a legitimate chance no one every comes close to achieving what he did.
7 Super Bowl rings, along with 5 Super Bowl MVP’s
15 Pro-Bowl selections and 3 All-Pro teams
3 MVP awards
Countless NFL passing records
And an endless amount of memories for football fans.
Thank you TB12 for changing the game, and I hope those who are happy you are leaving come to the realization the game won’t be the same without you.
Till Next Time,
Trevor
