The Cincinnati Reds Are Bad

How is no one talking about the fact that the Cincinnati Reds are currently 3-19. Yes, you read that correctly. Today is May 2nd, and the Reds have won 3 games to this point in the season. In

Now, no one expected the Reds to be World Series contenders coming into the season. However, having the reigning NL Rookie of the Year in Jonathan India and coming off of a 83-79 record in 2021, I think it is safe to say that the fans in Cincy were expecting to win more than 3 of their first 22 games this season.

In the offseason however, Reds management decided to completely blow up the franchise. Allowing Nick Castellanos and Wade Miley to walk in free agency started the downward trend. They then traded their bright spot pitcher in Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins, and decided to send not 1 – but 2 – former All-Stars to Seattle, shipping Jesse Winker and Eugieno Suarez to the Pacific Northwest.

The Reds were not expected to be contenders, but they were expected to compete, and to this point they haven’t even begun to touch the field it seems like. With two top-100 prospects on the roster (Nick Lodolo and Hunter Greene), it is well known that the Reds are a young organization and banking on the farm system to bring them up to speed in the future. But this is not how Joey Votto expected to spend what could be his last season in baseball.

I’m not sure what the Reds will do to right the ship, but I can pretty much assure you that Luis Castillo and any other relevant player (maybe even Joey Votto) will not be on their roster after the All-Star break. Rough, rough times are head in Cincinnati as if fan’s aren’t already well aware.

In 2003, the Detroit Tigers finished their season 43-119…will the 2022 Reds finish worse off? My money is on yes.
