Every Thursday we will be taking a look at logos from around sports. Whether they are designed interestingly, look absolutely terrible, or have a hidden message in them, no logo is off limits and hopefully you will learn something every week. Week 4 – Akron RubberDucks
Since 1989, the Akron Minor League Baseball Team has been affiliated with the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, the MLB club that is only 39 miles North of their Ohio home. However, the team has only been in the city of Akron since 1997, when they moved from Canton, Ohio to become the Akron Aeros.
Following the 2013 MiLB season, the Aeros would rebrand into much more of a MiLB friendly name. The Akron RubberDucks were born on October 29th, 2013.
Not only is this logo awesome because the sheer fact that the name of a professional baseball team is the RubberDucks, but if you look closely, these aren’t the rubber ducks you think of when you look into the bathtub.
Akron is known as the “Rubber Capital of the World”, due to the fact that Goodyear Tires was founded and headquartered there, with a long history of rubber and tire production in the town. If you look closely, behind the ducks head and under neath the name, there are tire tracks. Implying that these aren’t those fun yellow bathtub duckies, these are some burnt rubber ducks who are much hardier than their bathtime brothers.
Great color scheme, great team name, great detail with the rubber tire marks, and just overall a great logo.
Have any cool logo suggestions? Let me know.
Till Next Time,
Trevor
