Tonight is a night every kid who grew up playing football dreams about – hearing the commisioner call their name, getting handed a brand new hat, and walking across the stage after being handed your new teams jersey with a #1 on it.

It’s one of the top 3 days of the sports calendar – NFL Draft Day.

The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off tonight in Green Bay, Wisconsin as the Packers host the 32 teams and 15 players (and possibly more) waiting to hear their name called and dreams come true.

At the end of this you will get to see my mock draft, but before we get there, lets get some takes out of the way.

Best At Their Position

When it’s all said and done, years down the road and we look back on the class of the 2025 NFL Draft, the following guys will be the best at their position from this draft:

QB None… no one will stand out… this is giving major class of 2022 vibes where the #1 guy was Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy. Or 2013, with EJ Manuel as the lone 1st-rounder and Geno Smith being the “best” of the class.
RB – Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)
WR – Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)
TE – Tyler Warren (Penn State)
OL – Grey Zabel (North Dakota State)

Edge – Jack Sawyer (Ohio State)
IDL – Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)
LB – Carson Schwesinger (UCLA) *bRuined his life – Fight on!*
CB – Trey Amos (Ole Miss)
S Either Penn State Safety – Kevin Winston Jr. or Jaylen Reed

Tyler Warren – Penn State – Tight End
Yearly I get caught up in a tight end. Michael Mayer, Brock Bowers (so far so good), Kyle Pitts, Foster Moreau, Evan Engram – to name a few – that I am convinced is the next Gronk, Antonio Gates, Travis Kelce… the next “guy”. And a majority (well, all but one) in recent memory have not lived up to my beliefs. So again, this year… here we are… Tyler Warren is that guy. The guy man handled everyone in his path. He out jumped DB’s, ran over linebackers, and even ran the ball out of a modified “Wildcat” and did it beautifully. 6’5, 250, 4.63 speed, soft hands, hard runner, gets his hands on the DL early… what more could you ask for. Of the previous years TE’s… I haven’t wanted my team to have a guy more.

Grey Zabel – North Dakota State – Tackle
I’ve been listening, reading, and watching countless draft prep videos, podcasts, blogs, etc., and the guy who has officially pursuaded me with his highlights and measurements – he’s going to be the best OL in this class. He’s going to go mid-late 1st-round and a team that is already a playoff caliber team will be shoring their tackle for the forseable future.
6’6, 312, and a combine breakdown that ranks him #1 out of the class’s offensive lineman, I know who I wish was protecting me at QB.
His only knock is that he didn’t play at the FBS level, however, he played at the next best thing – North Dakota State. They produce NFL talent year in and year out, and there is no question whether or not he will be ready to play due to the “talent” he faced in the FCS during his career. He had the chance to transfer to a bigger school offering NIL money – but chose to stay in Fargo. SIGN ME UP. Loyalty? Say less. In a world that the transfer portal has begun to ruin college athletics, loyalty should mean something.

Travis Hunter – Wide Receiver? Cornerback? Both?

I think this all depends on what team drafts him. If the Browns draft him (spoiler, thats who I predict below), they are going to attempt to use him both ways. They are a horribly run dumpster fire of an organization and they will attempt to ruin his career just like they have so many before him. Do I think he has the talent to play both positions at a high level? Yes. Do I think he has the talent to play both positions, at a high level, during the same game? Not necessarily. While I have never played college or professional football, I have attended countless games of both – and just as a fan who is in the stands or on the sidelines (weird flex I know), the NFL game is not exaggerating 10x faster. The hits are 10x harder. The throws are 10x more impossible to catch/defend. The closing speed of a linebacker makes Usain Bolt look like a turtle.

Playing 2-ways, at a high level, at the next level – putting it simply – has never been done, nor do I believe it will be done by Travis Hunter.

Do I hope he does? Hell yeah – because that would be incredible to watch.
But wanting it to happen and believing it will happen are two seperate things.

Bold Predictions:

  • Giants draft Edge at 3, and trade back into the 1st round in the mid-20’s to draft a QB.
  • Shedeur Sanders fall begins, and is stopped by a team who gets antsy and jumps into the mid-late teens to take him.
    Wrong choice, see why here.
  • 2 runningbacks will be taken in the top 20

Mock Draft:

We’ll see what happens tonight, but let’s take a stab at it.

We are just a few hours from the 2025 NFL Draft.

Till Next Time,
Trevor

P.S. Shedeur Sanders is Bo Callahan.
*if you know, you know*
