Year in and year out college football teams release new uniforms, and unless you are Oregon, it is a big deal because most schools aren’t pumping out new jerseys weekly like the Ducks.
Some schools, like Alabama, Penn State, and USC (other than this year) never have anything different than their classic looks. But some schools say to the hell with “tradition” and give the fans something to get excited about a few times a year.
Here are some of my favorites from this college football season. These aren’t throwback uni’s like USC wore against Nebraska this year, you know like we have seen those in the past they aren’t something insanely special – these are one off (maybe they wear them in the future again) alternative uniforms for special occasion games. Like the first one mentioned below:
Yearly Honorable Mentions:
While some will be mentioned below above the rest – Any team that played in a black jersey who is not known for being black or wearing black jerseys, for example: Kansas Jayhawks, Utah Utes, Miami Hurricanes, Texas Tech Aggies – Black alternates jerseys rarely, if ever, don’t play.
Army – Navy Game
The Service Academies always put on for the annual matchups. This years featured Jolly Roger’s from Navy and “Snow Capped” 101st Airborne uni’s.
“Mighty Oregon”
Just like every year in recent memory, you could include damn near every Oregon Duck jersey in this list – but I won’t. However, whenever Oregon breaks out any throwback with the Kelly green and bright yellow, I’m on board more than ever. And then you throw the Duck on the sleeve? My God Man! Inject Oregon jerseys into my veins.
The Top 2024 Jerseys:
Tennessee Smokey Greys
The Tennessee Volunteers announced in 2022 that they would add one new “Smokey Grey” uniform per season through the 2025 season, with the potential to add on past that. This year’s look incredible with the Tri-Star logo on the sleeves and the dual-colored stripe on the helmet.
Air Force Special Forces
Air Force’s 2024 rendition of their “Air Power Legacy Series” uniforms this year honored Air Force Special Operations (AFSOC), and were absolutely incredible. Any picture of a dude in full pads on a machine gun in the back of a Humvee? Bad-Ass. Highlighting the Combat Controller’s slogan “First There” on the front of the helmet, with “Any Place” on the back – AFSOC’s slogan is “Any Place, Any Time, Anywhere”.
West Virginia Coal Miners
The Mountaineers honored the long history of coal mining in the state this season with their all black, grey accented “Coal Rush” uniforms.
Illinois 1924 or 2024?
The Fighting Illini beat defending national champion Michigan this season while wearing their 1924 “throwback” uni’s. I don’t know if I love them, hate them, or want them to wear them every game… it’s a weird spot to be in. The fact that the helmets were hand painted and looked like throwback leather helmets won me over.
FIU Vice U
The Miami Vice colors will never not play in my eyes. I wish that a school that was higher profile rocked these because they would be all over, but because it’s Mr. 305’s Florida International, they got overlooked very quickly. “Vice U” is kind of… lame? But it’s just such a sweet theme.
Texas Tech Patrick Mahomes Grays
It’s not the Mahomes’ logo on the Uniforms that makes them cool, it’s the metallic accents, the metallic numbers with some sort of “galvanized” design within them – along with the Mahomes’ logo that makes them sick.
Come back next week for top Helmets of the 2024 College Football Season
Till Next Time,
