Happy Monday,
Welcome to After the Final Whistle! Week 2 of the NFL season is in the books (minus tonights Monday Night Football matchups). Lets look at some of my personal take aways from the weekend!
Lions 36 – Commanders 27
The Lions were one of my picks this weekend, along with Jared Goff to tally over 1.5 touchdown passes. Jared covered in the first 20 minutes of the game, easy money. Then the Lions looked like it was potentially going to let the Commanders make it a nail bitter but luckily they ended up closing them out. As a Carson Wentz lover, it’s tough to say…but I’d assume they are looking heavily at this years QB class in the draft.
Buccaneers 20 – Saints 10
The fact that Tom Brady is 45 years old and still throws a better ball than 80% of the league is absolutely absurd. Today through 3 quarters, this game was the most boring game ever. But, then Jameis Winston remembered “Hey, I’m Jameis Winston” and began to give the people a great showing. 3 Interceptions in the 4th quarter, including a pick 6, from Jameis allowed the Bucs to close this boring game out. Tom Brady is not happy with his teams performance, and he shouldn’t be. Multiple balls were dropped that should have been caught, fumbles, and many other mistakes would drive anyone crazy… but especially the greatest quarterback of all-time who came out of retirement to play again with this team. Be better Bucs (outside of Tom).
Giants 19 – Panthers 16
The Bucs and Saints wanted to win the boring game of the week award, however the Panthers and Giants did just that after the 4th quarter showing in TB/NO. Neither of these teams have much to offer us outside of 2 stud runningbacks (when healthy), but neither QB is anything special with Baker throwing for under 150 yards, and Jones barely breaking the 175 mark. The fact that the Giants are 2-0 is alarming and Matt Rhule’s time in Carolina is on it’s last life.
Jets 31 – Browns 30
Couple of backup QB’s duking it out is exactly what fans want to see… a rough game from that stance. But wow, what an ending. The Jets overcome the Browns in the 4th quarter, outplaying Chubb and his 3 TD’s down the stretch. The Jets are Super Bowl bound and this comeback shows the grit in that team!
Patriots 17 – Steelers 14
What a weird game. Mac Jones came into the week with back issues, but that didn’t stop him from playing. The Steelers were home underdogs to the Pats, another weird aspect of the game. One note I’d like to talk about here… Why did TJ Watt have a mouth guard in? He is on the IR and was in civilian clothing! A true football guy.
Jaguars 24 – Colts 0
Is Matt Ryan done? This was a tough outing across the board for the Colts. The Jaguars dominanted the line of scrimage on both sides of the ball, and Trevor Lawrence looked like what a #1 overall picked QB should look like. I’m not sure if it’s time to press the panic button in Indy yet, but hosting Kansas City next week isn’t something to look forward to…
Dolphins 42 – Ravens 38
Second best ending to a game today. But, thats beside the point – Pay Lamar. I was not a Lamar believer, I am still a bubble believer, but this dude is balling out and earning his next contract. I know it’s early in the season, but he’s playing with a chip on his shoulder. He still makes questionable decisions and has horrible throws occasionally but none the less… he’s worth a big contract. Also, Tua is not good and I will stick by that take. I don’t care what his stat line was, I don’t care if they win games. He is not good. I could go out there and throw the ball as hard and far as I could and Tyreek would be there. It’s not talent.
49ers 27 – Seahawks 7
As an Anti-Trey Lance guy, I would never wish injury upon anyone and hope the guy recovers quickly and has the chance to prove me wrong on the field. Jimmy G is not a Hall of Fame QB, but he is a winner and a sufficable starter. I do not understand the Jimmy G hate in the Bay Area. The Seahawks are not in a good place and similar to the Commanders, Bryce Young, is that you?
Cowboys 20 – Bengals 17
The Bengals were an absolute lock this week. Well, that lock didn’t hold anything back and let the entire state of Texas through the door when it busted. What the hell was that, Bengals? Granted getting to the Super Bowl last season was a cinderella story in itself, but I honestly thought they were going to take the next step this year and be a legitimate team. However, here we are at the end of week 2, and they have not won a game. No team since 2020 when the NFL expanded it’s playoffs to 14 teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-2… Poor Bengals.
Enough with the Bengals talk, shout out to Cooper Rush for sticking it to them and leading the Cowboys to victory. Obviously had some questional decisions, but 235 yards and a TD is enough to help the squad.
Rams 31 – Falcons 27
The Rams are sketchy. They are the reigning Super Bowl Champions and were ran through week 1, and then almost allowed a far inferior Falcons team beat them this week. I’m not sure what the story is in Los Angeles, but it’s not something to over look. I think they are a good team, but there is a lot of concerns.
For the Falcons, let me just say it again for the people in the back – DRAKE LONDON WILL BE A TOP 5 NFL WR. That is all.
Broncos 16 – Texans 9
Are the Texans a decent team? Are the Broncos horrible? Getting booed by your new home crowd couldn’t have been a great feeling for the positive attention only seeking Russell Wilson, but he deserved it with his 14 for 31 passing day. He hasn’t looked good in either game since donning the orange and blue, granted week one was emotional return to Seattle. As a potential Hall of Famer, I expected more from Russ the last two weeks. Davis Mills seems to have won many people over as “the guy” in Houston, but I just don’t see that. Not sure what their plan is but I’d hope it doesn’t include him in the future.
Cardinals 29 – Raiders 23
Ending of the week award is presented to this game! What a fun game. Kyler Murray put the team on his back in clutch situations, including scoring a TD and converting a second 2-pt conversion with no time left in the game. However, the first half of the game was not Kyler’s best and I still am not sold on him deserving his contract. Are the Cardinals legit? Are the Raiders bad? I just don’t know what to think about Kyler, the Cards, and the Raiders. Week 3 will be another questionmark when looking at these teams games, you never know who’s going to show up.
Packers 27 – Bears 10
Aaron Rodgers is incredible, but for some reason he cannot get these WR’s on the same level that he has been able to bring former WR’s up to. Is Davante that big of a factor in Rodgers success, and it wasn’t that Rodgers elevated Adams – but that Adams prolonged Rodgers’ downfall? Not everyone can be Tom Brady, and it seemed as though Rodgers personal (not team) success was going to be up there with Brady’s longevity…but here we are.
Fields continues to struggle in the NFL, I was high on him out of college but it appears I was wrong there. He’s got a long way to go before becoming worthy of his first round selection status.
Titans at Bills / Eagles at Vikings
Tonight we have the Buffalo Bills hosting the Tennessee Titans, which should be a one sided matchup. It is the final pick from Weekend Pick$ (Bills -10), if you missed the picks this week be sure to check out this weeks picks on Fridays for the rest of football season! In the second game, can Jalen Hurts continue to improve and defeat Kirk Cousins’ Vikings? I don’t think so, but we’ll have to see.
Till Next Time,
Trevor
