That took no time at all.

The Patriots have annouced they will be promoting Inside Linebackers Coach Jerod Mayo to head coach to replace Bill Belichick, just 24 hours after Belichick’s departure.

Mayo, 37-years old, has been on Belichick’s staff in New England since 2019. However, prior to that he has zero coaching experience. He was a member of the Patriots as a player from 2008-2015, and then rejoined the organization as said above in 2019 on staff.

Mayo has never held a position above positions coach, however Robert Kraft and the organization believe that is enough to take over the reigns from the Hall of Fame coach they are replacing. So much so, they didn’t even bring in the sure fire correct hire – Mike Vrabel – for an interview.

Seems to be an interesting move on Kraft’s part, however he hasn’t had to go through a head coaching search since 2000… so can you blame him?

Till Next Time,
Trevor
